#FacesOfAbilityFriday – Mary W.
This week on #FacesOfAbilityFriday we’re featuring Mary W. Mary lives in one of MORA’s residential homes. We sat down with Mary and one of her staff members to discuss her life and what makes her so awesome.
Mary works at MRCI. She does a few different jobs there, including weighing cards, counting cards, and shredding. Mary likes shredding paper so much that she does it at home for fun as well! She is also learning computer skills at MRCI.
Mary is an active lady and has numerous interests. She’s artsy and loves to work on craft projects. She enjoys being social, with her housemates, staff, and in the community. She loves traveling, and recently went on a trip to Florida (a nice escape from the cold weather here!). Mary said she’d like to go back to Florida eventually, or out to see California.
Mary loves Christmas! She likes putting up decorations and how many people come around during the holidays. She said that her staff make Christmas special for her and her housemates, and she’s appreciative of this.
There are lots of special things about Mary. Her staff confirm that she has a great sense of humor and that she loves to joke around. Her humor is described as “inviting.” Mary calls herself the “mother hen” of her house. She’s protective of her housemates and staff, and watches over them. She considers her staff to be family and likes being able to put a smile on their faces. Mary has two tattoos, one on each arm.
If Mary could tell the community anything about herself, she’d want people to know that she loves her fish and treats them like her children. She said that she makes it a point to “spoil” her fish whenever she can.
Quick facts about Mary:
